The HP 9896 was an integrated system combining an HP 9831 computer, one or more 9885 disc drives, and a printer all on a custom desk.

I'm interested in locating and acquiring these devices. If you have this equipment, or might know someone who does, please send me an e-mail!

The unit can accomodate two additional floppy disks, HP said.

Software offered with the system includes accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, inventory control and general ledger, the company noted.

The system is available with the standard 8K bytes of memory or can be expanded up to 32K bytes.

The CPU itself can work with plotters and CRTs and features a built-in bidirectional tape drive with a 90 in./sec search-and-rewind speed. Average access time is 6 sec, the company stated.

The 9831A CPU costs $7,200; the total business information management configuration costs $18,700, HP said from 1501 Page Mill Road, Palo Alto, Calif. 94304.
